Ashtanga Yoga Chester - what to expect?

It’s becoming quite a thing.

Even if you've never tried Ashtanga before there might be some things of interest to you….

Things you might not know:

Ashtanga is journey of progress.

We do the same sequence of postures each week.

It's a real work out.

You'll sleep well.

You'll feel like you worked every muscle in your body. On Thursday!

What to expect when you get here

We've built quite a group over the last year or so at Soup Studios, off Sealand Road, Chester.

We get a good mix of genders and ages.

We get a lot of bicycles left in the corridor!

Each person is working on their own thing, despite us all doing the same postures.

We offer advice, tips and hands-on techniques on an individual basis.

We have a good social, chat before and after in the green room.

The lights stay low, in sync with your circadian rhythm, as the evenings draw in.

New things coming up!

On the first Tuesday of the month we have a go at the Ashtanga Second Series.

Blocks and props

We encourage the use of blocks and straps.

Block bricks in particular can be a really worthwhile investment.

Cork brick blocks offer better stability for your wrists and ideally you will need two.

I can purchase these for £9 each at Yoga Matters if anyone would like to put in an order.

Progress is building

Having seen lots of progress over the last few weeks, I'll be running an Ashtanga Tricks Workshop on Monday 25 November - this will be 2 hour workshop which will allow you the time and an opportunity to better understand some of the postures.

We'll be looking at transitions and making vinaysas more efficient and looking at how to start working towards jump throughs and jump backs.

You can take what you learn in this into any other yoga class - whether you do Ashtanga or not, it will all be useful and relevant for any yoga class.

You will need brick blocks ideally but we do have some in the Chester studio.
The workshop is half price for members.

Ashtanga weekly class

Come give it a go.

Tuesdays 6pm - 90 minutes

@Soup Studios, Chester
