Introducing Strength for Life Member, Phil
Introducing Phil, soon to be 60 years young! I live on my own in a small village a few miles outside of Mold with my four legged friend, Bryn.
When did you start your yoga journey and how often do you practice yoga?
I started with Pilates in 2017 following medical advice to prevent re-occurrence of a lower back problem. Progressed onto yoga a year later and have kept it up ever since. Practicing more now than in the earlier days and aim to do at least 3 evening classes a week supplemented with a sessions on my own to stretch out aching muscles and stiff joints. And if I'm not going into work, I'm always logged on for the 07:45am 15 minutes of pain!
What's your favourite class?
Although I get a lot from doing the full Ashtanga primary series on a Tuesday evening, I prefer not knowing what the next asana is going to be so I'd say the technique classes are my favourite.
Why yoga / core classes help you?
Put simply, I feel mentally and physically better after each session.
What's your least favourite yoga pose/core drill and why?
I've got tight hamstrings and stiff hips so my least favourite yoga asana has to be Janu Sirsasana A. Core drills are great, no dislikes.
Yoga Goals / Plans for the future?
If I could sort my hips out, I think I'd find a number of asanas a lot easier and maybe one day manage a half lotus or perfect the jump through and back transitions.
Last meal on death row? / Your fav meal basically!
I've got a weakness for pastry, so sweet or savoury pies.
